Southern Life Magazine Issue 23

Winter 2017 Edition

Swinging With The Stars turned 10 this year and we celebrate a decade of dazzling performances with the 2017 winner Amanda Flint on the cover of our winter edition of Southern Life. A major fundraiser for the Stand Like Stone Foundation, we talk to Sue Charlton about the evolution of the popular event and how it came about in the first place. And again we catch up with locals and former locals who are absolutely knocking it out of the park in their chosen careers. From teenage singing sensation Ellyana Sims, who is launching her debut EP of self-penned originals, to Stefan Millard, an engineer now in charge of a Supercar team, from a mother-son trek of the Kokoda Trail, to bringing disease out of the shadows and into the light through a comic book hero, there is nothing, if not variety in this jam packed issue.

There is a teenage author, an accessories designer headed to New York, the latest in the life of musical theatre star Euan Doidge and a Frances couple looking to put their tiny town on the map as a strawberry hot spot, while Bordertown’s Walkway Gallery continues to attract the big names and a council stalwart calls it a day. It is inspiring (and exhausting) to delve into just what makes this region tick and what people from this region can achieve, both here and afar. Pick up your copy today from all good newsagents.

The Odd

There’s one thing for sure – Mount Gambier and the Riddoch Art Gallery have never seen an exhibition like this before – and only the rich imagination of Mount Gambier artist Gina Raisin could have dreamt it up. The Amazing Adventures of Doctor Mayhem and The Chonga Barz is as surprising and eclectic as it sounds as quiet ...

You may not know her name yet, but home-grown talent Taylor Hunt is starting to make waves in the exclusive fashion industry after hitting the runway for New York Fashion Week in September. The 23 year old brought her Hunt & Heart designs to life in front of the world’s fashion elite on a stage most designers only dream of.
